Summary: The CIO Golf Championships debuted in 2020 at the Python Golf Club in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The 5th edition in November 2024 witnessed an unprecedented entry of 140 professional golfers and 240 amateur players from 14 African countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Equitorial Guinea, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia. There was also one European entry from England. The CIO Championship is considered by golf enthusiasts as the biggest golf event in Nigeria, boasting a total purse of N35million Naira in 2024. Sunday Olapade of Ikoyi Club 1938 emerged as the overall winner in 2024, having earlier won the event in 2022.
